To import photos or videos from a camera / camcorder directly without synchronization via iTunes, on an iPad or iPad mini with Lightning connector, there is strictly speaking only two ways: by means of this here USBaufLightning adapter or via the way of SD card-to-Lightning adapter from Apple.
Concrete background for the acquisition of USB-to-Lightning adapter was the idea on holiday (no computers, no notebook on site) recorded with a separate camera photos, not only on the relatively small camera display, but in a bigger size like the iPad to look at. Because Apple in its connectivity on the iPad (no mini / micro USB, no HDMI and no direct SD card slot) is limited, the acquisition of the adapter was therefore inevitable.

USB Universal Adapter or camera adapter?
Each user should be before purchase aware that using the adapter ONLY THE TRANSFER OF PHOTOS TOWARDS iPad or iPad-MINI is possible. The reverse direction, photos or other data from the iPad to transfer towards the camera media is blocked by Apple and is not possible. Likewise, the transfer means of the adapter of a camera on the iPhone or iPod is not possible.
Furthermore, the connection of other storage devices with USB port like USB sticks; HDD (Hard Disk Drive = conventional hard drive) or SSD (Solid State Drive = semiconductor drive) is not possible. In contrast, the connection of musical equipment is quite possible.
Short: The adapter is thus not a pure camera adapter but no USB - Universal Adapter.

(Apple) devices compatibility
- Only iPad (4.Gen.), IPad Air (5.Gen.), IPad mini (1.Gen.) And iPad mini - Retina (2.Gen.)
- No iPhone or iPod (!)

When transferring video to iPad / iPad mini is the following points should be noted:
- Get more information on .mov files with MPEG-4 / H.264 codec in 720p and 1080p with 30 frames per second as well as PCM or AAC
- Are not displayed AVCHD codec (file extension .mts), which are used for example in camera and camcorder models from Sony or Panasonic. Here would (if possible) the recording mode of the camera or camcorder can be set to Motion-JPEG, with the result that .mov files are created (imported from the iPad possible).
By the way:
- After connecting the adapter can be seen on the iPad first smaller thumbnails (called thumbnails). - Processing and quality of this product are highly original; Design Apple-typical; Price too high.
- Can be used this adapter is only for a limited range of (photos on iPad / iPad mini; restricted videos, music equipment, no other data transfer; no use on iPhone or iPod)
