Although I do not know the interpretations of Kempff, I could make a comparative listening to the sonata "Storm" found in this compilation with an earlier interpretation Richter (splendid incidentally). The game Brendel is very nuanced, detailed with a highlighting feelings (nostalgia, drama, ...). The beautiful lower register is never monolithic. The highs are light and silky. The cozy touch. Some movements are less exciting than others and this is the game full of poetry, never aggressive Brendel allowing the listener to not get bored for a second.
