The stand holds iPad (with or without SmartCover) or Acer tablet (Iconia) safely in any position. Very good unlike other stands is the possibility of adjusting the angle of attack and to fix. For smartphones, I would recommend it only partially, because it is sufficiently wide for tablets, a smartphone but it seems a little lost.
