Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing (2007)

Hell yeah! The self-proclaimed mother ***** Princess seems to have discovered the so-called Profanities for themselves and apply them accordingly inflationary, when compared to the previous albums, to. And otherwise she has undergone an image change. Away from something sinister predecessor towards happy melodies and many pop hooks. Let's go!

The opening track Girlfriend is likely to be well known and well representative of Avril's extended style. Here there is a catchy hook in the chorus, beautifully turned out pop and provided with electronic drums and Handclapps, and in contrast, an equally catchy verse, which was stormy but equipped with power chords and a brisk flow of text. Mag the term Pop Punk also seem somewhat paradoxical, so summarizes Girlfriend this music style well together: A mixture of catchy mainstream melodies, equipped with lots of glitter and glamor, and yet the general imperfect, gitarrenrotzigen, power chord-boastful attitude of the original punks , That may not taste any, but who can engage in it, the more expected such great pieces I can do better and Runaway. The latter even unpacked again from one of the typical catchy melodies Avril on the chorus, so that even fanatical fans of its predecessor should be reconciled.
A curiosity is the title track The Best Damn Thing. The verses have failed badly American-cheerleaderisch. Avril relies here on unusual, but after getting used to but cross, Chanting. The Bridge is even not too bad typical Give me an A! etc to unpack. On the other hand, there is again a typical and well successful, melodic chorus Avril. Overall, the song sounds so pretty inhomogeneous.

Production wise the album is fully in order. Not overproduced and always to the point, as always just. A predicate, which also goes for Avril Lyrics, although the pretty Canadian on this album just in a Mädche
n-loves-boy (or sometimes not) seems to be stuck phase. This also applies to the more serious ballads. This natural form again the classic pop-rock stereotype and so When you're gone relies on sweeping piano and string accompaniment. Nevertheless, this concept seems to work, although there is again a good deal is better managed in the similar Innocence. The melody here is just wonderful melancholic, full of suspense and also shows Avril's nice singing skills on. The Bridge also demonstrates what a successful stress buildup means.

Too many ballads there are not anyway, and so you will be brought to the brisk, rocking pop punk Everything Back But You return to the state of things back before you can delight in the perfect song Hot successful. Melody, chord progression, Hook, calmed Bridge, driving rhythm, powerful backing chants at the end. More must not say.

If the album is slowly coming to an end, there are with I do not have to try again properly on the ears. Although it starts again with Handclapps and Chanting, it expires immediately afterwards in a really snotty rebel rock mood. Provide a musical tribute to Sk8er Boi, just uncompromising, rousing, harder and krachiger. After two nice skirt (especially stocks Contagious, but also One of those girls) there then last but not the song for the Eragon soundtrack Keep Holding On to hear. Although not absolutely necessary, but nice.

Conclusion: The Best Damn Thing is full of pink-cheerful energy. Admittedly, sometimes this is something unusual girly-way and also otherwise you can either love or hate the new image. But the fact is: The new album is preparing not only entertaining pleasures! I would even say: It has become the benchmark for a cheerful pop-punk record.
