Unpacking / First impression / Design:

Immediately after unpacking one falls the great design of (a matter of taste). It looks very modern, the shaded surface is very chic, classy and simple. Unfortunately, only a foot is, the unit has no wall bracket. After the initial set up and connect the network and power cable me the router is always upset, because the device and the feet are very easy and fast tip. Pulling the cable extends. But if you have the router positioned and the cables are laid, of course everything is OK. The unit has blue LEDs that glow visible, but not too bright. The router is 1.5m next to my television and the LEDs are visible, but also interfere in the dark at night while watching TV not.
Basic setup:

First of all: I want the router to use only as a WLAN interface (access point), my Fritz box without WLAN assigns the IP addresses in the network. I've followed the Quick Start Guide: CD purely and software started. The setup goes, if you do nothing else, assume that you have a modem that can be configured as part of the setup. I had some problems with the setup and failed attempts. This was also the fact that my Fritz box as the Asus router also (and thus the device is configured at delivery) as a DHCP server and IP addresses works awards. The IP range of the Fritz box is different from the IP range of the Asus router. Therefore, you have to be careful here, and a DHCP server off earliest possible! Also significantly fewer problems with the setup I had after I did the firmware up to date and the Asus utility had downloaded for configuration in its latest version from the website. The router knows 3 modes of operation: Mode 1: "IP Sharing mode (default)": On the router, the modem is connected directly. Mode 2: "Router (Disable NAT)": A switch is still between the router and modem - the Asus router makes no NAT. 3rd and last option is: "Access Point": Here only WLAN is quasi provided - the Asus does not care even to the structure of the World Wide Web connection. So it is with me. I would probably want this option set via the Admin web interface BEFORE the Wizard or the Setup Utility. The default IP of the router 192.168.1.1 and with admin / admin, you can then log on. The whole installation procedure with the mentioned topics took me about 4 hours.
Operational:

The box runs very reliably, you can really set a lot of things in the setup. Changes in UPnP it takes when you click Apply Changes "always about 1 minute at the beginning of a bit annoying, later to do but the operation not so much in this area - if one makes configuration changes, probably the whole configuration is again stored.. area go much faster.

I reach about 2 feet from the router removes a rate of exactly 150 MBit / sec net (not MB!) What really is very good. I live in a house with concrete walls with steel bracing (the nightmare of every WLANs). The router is located on the ground floor and even on the 2nd floor, I am the worst point yet reception (only 5 Mbit - ok, it leaves it still surf). I would not have expected that! On the 1st floor there are the ungeünstigsten point even 50 Mbit / sec.
Asus includes the AI radar technology, which can be in the menu on / off and to increase the throughput of the network by the data stream is routed to the targeted devices. For me, the technique does not provide higher data rates. The option is only incidentally in the 5 GHz range.
I have made the above performance measurements with my HP EliteBook 8540p, this supports all wireless modes (n, g, ..) but only has 2 antennas. This means that the windows in the optimal link speed max. 300 MBit / s displays. The router has in the 5 GHz band but already 3 antennas! My other laptop HP EliteBook 8730w has a wireless card with 3 antennas onboard and here I get 450 Mbit / s - performance isz again 20% higher. These are therefore already at a router with 3 antennas in the 5 GHz band! Future-proof, I would say!

Thanks to the gigabit ports to reach here in 1100 MBit / sec (NAS to laptop).

- There are 5.6 watts in standby, in operating a maximum of 9.6 watts
- The router must disable neither a real nor a switch to switch the WLAN.

External hard drive (FAT32 and NTFS formatting possible) and printer, I do not agree with, in various other tests, there were no problems.

Oh yes: With Chip Online editors has achieved extreme data rates in the test by having used the same 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz - apparently on a terminal. If anyone knows how to do this, I would appreciate a note in the comment on this review! I have found nothing, despite detailed Googling it. Although the router offers both options, both frequencies are also active but my laptop still uses only one frequency.
