maybe they are a little too well-behaved and the fact that almost all the recordings have been published on DG, is a notable drawback for me. the sound philosophy of this label is not mine, most DG recordings fall sonically with me by.
The interesting thing about this recording is that all the pieces the same disciplined and dedicated interpreted and it thus has the opportunity to pursue Schubert's chamber music development without interference.
the earlier, less known quartets still sit very in Mozart and Haydn, but included so typical of Schubert harmonic variety with a tendency to melancholy.
the progressive melancholy of the composer you can watch here very good, although there is to discover also cheerful and dreamy moments.
only "the Death and the Maiden" is me down interpreted here to dry something but can be because I this piece possesses several very good, but also differently interpreted versions and me therefore this here - is because that word again - to " well-behaved "appears.
praiseworthy and well that is in any case that you can buy a cheap so evenly rehearsed complete recording of the string quartets of Schubert for reasonable here.
with the sound of the recording I can live well, even though here - DG-typical - the instruments sounded little too small or too thin or with a strange hardness and the impression of space on hard to define art is unrealistic. But all this is much, much less bad than many competing DG-productions and thus all be described as above average.
The only question is why the part before Christmas was noticeably cheaper ...
the box is the required Obulus here but still worth it!
