Second volume of the Los Angeles quartet, The Big Nowhere is chronologically between Black Dahlia and LA Confidential. Ellroy continued his business to tell the recent history of the United States through the crime (here the 50 background of "witch hunt") following the path crossed three policemen. The dense narrative confronts the characters created by Ellroy to historical figures of the "medium" of politics and show business, and remains exciting until the end in all its aspects: multiple investigations meet, point of view 'Ellroy on the time and exceptional psychological description of the three officers. The Big Nowhere is perhaps the greatest achievement of James Ellroy; the only drawback: it is very difficult to find this book an equivalent after reading pleasure.
