What's in the new model different now and what has changed? Briefly surprisingly little.

The design of the machine is very similar to that of 20 years ago, at least as regards the aluminum body and the design of the slide. New are the bottom plate of glass and the supplement black plastic parts, z. B. for the sliding top and the average thickness controller. This combination of aluminum silver gloss, stainless steel surfaces, glass transparency and the black parts seemed altogether very harmonious and modern.

The handling is similar. The carriage moves smoothly and has a stopper back and forth on. The bearing surface of the slider is made of polished stainless steel. There is a cross-sectional thickness control from zero to 20 mm thickness, which should be sufficient for most purposes. The sharpness of the knife is terrific in the newly delivered state. I can not remember if two alternative diameter were present in the old machine. This model comes with a slightly serrated knife. The scope of supply also is a smooth knife to replace. Since I had previously used only a smooth knife, I was amazed at how clean and smooth and this toothed z. B. cutting cheese or sausage. I have decided therefore, this toothed initially kept to, as it brings about additional benefits for crusty bread. Therefore, the smooth initially remains spare. In supplement to the device a customer service telephone number is called, about which one learns as a sometime blurred become one knife may be sent in for sharpening. From my experience this is anyway the only thing that is ever waiting on the machine. Maybe apart from greasing of the slide and the blade gear.
Between the old and this latest model there yet small differences. Some of the new details I regard as progress, at least I miss a function, however, compared to the current lifestyle machine:
°°° Unlike the old machine there is a base plate made of glass, which is stable and not slippery on the ground with plastic knobs. The machine is anchored at the rear end of this plate and floats towards the front. This looks for a chic, but also has practical advantages. The supplied rectangular collecting plate of transparent plastic is namely so both longitudinally and foist cross. Also, it is possible to detect under any other plate or plates for collecting the cut. In the old machine there was only one kind of breakthrough, are the machine without base plate like a bridge back and forth rested directly on the ground.
°°° The knife is covered by an aluminum plate at the highest point upwards. So you can eg., By reckless movements from above not hurt.
°°° The automatic shutdown after max. 5 minutes, the activated Kindersicheurng, the integrated overload protection with blockages of the cut and the overheating protection provide additional safety.
°°° The perhaps somewhat oversized knob for setting the section thickness is mounted on left side. This is more convenient than placing the front (in the old machine), as you can use the button with your left hand.
°°° as a real step backwards, I see to it that there is a power button, rear left, after which pressing the machine runs continuously. I was not used from the decades-old practice with the old model, because where the power switch in the sliding table is integrated. It sums pushes the material being cut there with the right hand over the slide and pushes simultaneously with the thumb of that hand a contact surface in the slide, which sets the engine in motion. Once you let go, the machine stops. So one can easily interrupt even during cutting. Unfortunately, such a mechanism in which the current model is not integrated. If you cut more bread letter z. B. or in between other relays ready to be cut, the knife runs constantly on. For me, a potential security risk because it so easily can unintentionally hurt the knife itself.
My rating would actually be at 4.5 stars because of my view less advantageous turning-. But since I find the machine class in all other functions and with regard to the design, I forgive 5 Stars. I recommend the machine also because of my decades high quality of the brand Graef, which stands for solidity and durability.
