Blackbird (Audio CD)

Customer Review

This band from New Zealand will unswervingly for over ten years its very own way. You make music together in the Home Base Wellington, where some still live in shared standard together. Here is also produced in his own studio, on their own label without any requirements of outside relaxed three studio albums. Otherwise you pull making music through world history and has built up an impressive fan base here. One who has left Fat Freddy's Drop in his musical cosmos who is infected permanently. That's a good sign for a band, also a sign of musical quality and exceptionality. Here on "Blackbird" moves on the caravan. This also describes the groove of the plate which has something of the spirit of the bolero Ravel. The songs between 5 and 10 minutes are a kind of psychedelic reggae soul jazz with a little dub, blues and funk it. Reminds you feel a little of the almost epic works of the 70s such as the session band Sweet Smoke, the afro-funk combo War to the jazz-rock projects to Billy Cobham, Chick Corea and John McLaughlin. What displeases me a bit with "Blackbird", is that the album somehow not really starts. I am just not crisp enough. Sure, the guys understand their instruments to use and get all the necessary room for development, which is of course the Fat Freddy Doctrine. But a little I wait all the time that the node is bursting and things liven times correctly. Nevertheless, this third studio album for friends of Fat Feddy's Drop is an absolute must. Beginners, I would rather recommend the second studio album "Dr Boondigga & The Big BW" or one of the live albums.
