Mama Loo and Mexico with a new look is a bold but only partially successful step, but it goes in the right direction. However, the recordings lack of pressure, the strength and the joy of having the old Les Humphries Singers excellent. It simply lacks breadth and volume in the songs and they sound listless.
I too believe that Jürgen Drews is clearly unable to cope with the song "Mama Loo". Kansas City has not the freshness of the old arrangements but sounds more like a copy of a bad cover band.
"Yes we can" often recalls the platitude of the cheap Ballermann mood songs. There probably had "Uncle Jürgen" his hands in the game. For most songs you could have done much more and they sound rather lackluster for me and dahingesungen.
You can tell this CD on how much the composition and arrangement of Les Humphries missing and you will have to make an effort to get here a suitable replacement. So far I can only say: "The Spirit is dead".
Very positively stands out the song "Boy try to run". Here the spirit of Humphries resonates again and here may be cheered again.
More Songs in this direction would be a good way to the Les Humphries Singers breathe life back. I would be very happy if this project would take this direction and energy of the Les Humphries Singers would rise again.
Perhaps the reunion should listen once their first comeback in 1992:
Spirit of Freedom. This CD (even with Les Humphries) is much better managed.
