The Canon EOS 40D makes photographers not better - but much faster:
I like to take pictures and a lot at night and need for my bracketing as the mirror lockup, 100 ISO, High ISO Noise Reduction (which at low ISO values the depths denoised well) and the central focusing area and Aperture 5.6. These values I have brought upon the position C1 and can now accurately retrieve with a simple turn this setting immediately without long set in the menu values.
The same applies to sports photography - on C2 lie with me 400 ISO with active Tonwertpriorität and the focus tracking AI Servo.
In short, the camera takes me from the constant reconfiguration and I can depending on the scene quickly respond. So far so good.
For image quality:
A visible improvement over my 30D can not be seen here. For night scenes, the 30D even rustles in my view less than the new 40D. I nachbearbeite Photos intense this slight difference, however, is not too critical because I mostly entrausche my shots before the presentation.
Anyone (like myself) has a 20D or 30D as the previous model, which should be the transition think very carefully. The image qualities of the smaller sisters are also excellent and if you eg LiveView really needs, can only every (r) clarify for themselves. The resolution of 2 megapixels more (the 20D and 30D have 8.2 megapixel sensors) is great for anyone who cut a lot of photos and edit. However, you pay for the 10.2 megapixel 40D of the reduced space for eg RAW files. Now instead of 110 RAW files I get only 73 photos on a 1GB chip.
Conclusion:
The 40D is an excellent camera in Canon typical build quality that is its claim to one of the leading products in semi-professional DSLR segment absolutely fair. Whether it but a sensible purchase for transfer passengers is, who previously brought very good cameras as the above models are used, only can each decide for themselves.
4 stars (instead of actually earned 5) are available for the hard-to-understand product policy of Canon: in March 2008, a 450D is inserted in the entry-level segment, which has a contrast autofocus and 12.2 megapixels - and, a few months after the introduction of the 40D , It is this contrast autofocus me often lacking in the macro range, so that I here now depart the star, because the technology was known in the house obviously Canon and is now installed as a supposedly new "goodies" in the 450D.
