Quiet and little warm

A hard drive with more than 4 terabytes was until recently considered technically unfeasible. Shingle with magentic recording (SMR) but a method has been developed, however, that use of overlapping data tracks, and thus greater capacity allows. Disadvantage of this method: it is technically complicated, the hard drive by slowly than conventional PMR variants.

However, hard drives of this size are still relatively scarce. Here's my impression of the WD Red NAS 6TB.

The hard disk is delivered in buffered 2 Plastikblistern in a small carton. The package includes in addition to the hard drive just 4 screws to fix the frame and an instruction manual.

The test hardware were lack of matching NAS Inateck a USB 3.0 eSATA docking station connected to USB 3.0 at Medion Akoya E7222 Notebook with Core i3 2350M processor and Windows. 7

Positive noticed is my low volume of the plate during the benchmark tests. One has to keep his ear directly on the plate in order to perceive anything. Also good: the disk is barely warm. At rest, the temperature is 29 °, during intensive use it rises to a maximum of 35 °.

CrystalDiskMark measures the following values:
Sequential read test (block size = 1024KB): 170.8 MB / s
Sequential Write test (block size = 1024KB): 170.8 MB / s
Random Read test (block size = 512 KB): 51.3 MB / s
Random Write test (block size = 512 KB): 101.4 MB / s
Random Read test (block size = 4K): 0,641 MB / s
Random Write test (block size = 4K): 2,213 MB / s

The hard drive is due to the somewhat cumbersome storage process no racehorse, but still fast enough. For the NAS operation or as an archive hard drive for large files (such as movies) in the desktop PC in my view, sufficient.
