But first Ritchie Blackmore had exchanged with the exception of singer Ronnie James Dio, the entire band. Now Super-drummer Cozy Powell, bassist Jimmy Bain and keyboardist Tony Carey were (in 1988 with Room With A View had a solo hit in Germany) on board.
The change is already in a comparison of the two cover much: still very colorful and dreamy fanciful War Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, so RISING shows a jagged coastline and a stormy sea, from the coming attacks a fist to the rainbow.
The reshuffle does, of course, also in the sound noticeable. RISING shows a very different side of Rainbow as the debut. The music sounds much darker, harder, mystical and epic. But the relaxed feel of the debut of a new seriousness on the other side has given way. The pieces are played all perfect and well arranged. There are no superfluous note and no small ornament that is not fundamental to the piece.
Dominating the sensation of the two longtracks Stargazer and A Light In The Dark. How many musicians have chosen the enjoyment of Stargazer to also wanting to make music, will probably never be found, but there may have been some. And probably still come again and again young musicians on the taste, this epic work leaves with all its facets. In particular, many fans of progressive rock are likely if Stargazer schnalzen joy with his tongue. And Ronnie James Dio has earned this achievement alone for a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
But it would be wrong to reduce RISING only on these two highly successful songs. For the four other songs on RISING are a true delight. Tarot Woman sounds so mystical, as the title suggests. Run With The Wolf is a consistent rocker, who pumped a like leaves after a hunt. Starstruck has all hit qualities. And Do You Close Your Eyes was too early Rainbow times the bouncer at the concerts, because then actually musically almost everything was said.
Overall RISING is one of the best albums of the genre Hard Rock has to offer. The musicians are all top notch and the music search anyway peers - clearly the strongest album of Rainbow and perhaps even the strongest rock album of the 20th century.
