There are alternatives that promise a significantly higher security: Heavy padlocks are Kryptonite New York Lock standard padlock and Abus Granit X-Plus 54 U-lock. Alternatives to padlock are about ABUS folding lock Bordo 6000/90, 90 cm and bike lock chain ABUS City Chain 1010 U-locks are considered very stable and difficult to crack, but are inflexible because they are too narrow for large trees or lanterns. Closer strap make the attack with heavy tools difficult, small castles allow thicker tubes that can withstand the Flex longer. Large castles are so convenient, but insecure or> 2.5kg heavy.
This castle is no such extreme copy, but a harmless compromise between practicality and security. I always find a fence, post, railing or a traffic sign, so does not need to look first (in the city). Of course, you could always just close the rear wheel to the frame without Wegtragsperre I find a castle but pointless. I put the castle mostly through the rear triangle and enclose the spokes of the rear wheel. The front wheel can not back up the same course.
Go Abus supplies with various mounting options that I have not tested. I hang the lock on short routes on my shoulder, on longer trips I hang it around the handlebars. That's enough.
The lock cylinder hakelt sometimes, after a while you get the hang of it, however, and it goes smoothly. Unlike a (fake?) Supermarket-Abus shackle lock the same price range that I had tried before, the key is not made of soft metal and does not break off at the second attempt.
I can not make any statements about the safety of the castle. My bike was not stolen :-) Anyway the bike is never the worst secured wheel when it is in a group at the roadside. That's enough for me to feel safe.
Interesting point: There are for this lock series no master key and not Aufbrechanleitung as for many premium castle. Apparently you been afraid the effort, or keeps it a secret. I feel that as an advantage over the expensive locks.
This castle I find reasonable compromise of safety, comfort and low price. The directive, one should invest 10% of the purchase price in a bicycle lock, I stride, however. Whether that's a good idea, everyone must decide for themselves.
