I quickly attached to this ambitious young boy and dreamer even if I did not believe for a second the fact that a young person can find themselves in the trenches arriving by bike ... That said, it was necessary for an adequate plot interest young people. I put aside my beliefs to plunge myself into the world of the war in the trenches wet, dirty and stinking, under enemy bombardment. I often feared for Max and his friend Gaston. This novel deals mainly with the everyday life of soldiers, their life under the General Orders. A quick reference to the taxis of the Marne in the early chapters was a bit disconcerted, I did not really understand its usefulness in the history of Max, probably just a reminder of history. This novel seamlessly blends history, suspense and emotion (my eyes stung me in the last pages).
