I've gotten 3 of these devices are in use, to three years of the previous generation (My Book World Edition) with 1 TB capacity. All four are working in a network with about 15 Windows PCs and Linux servers. The tasks of the boxes are different, two are used for data backup, one works as a media server and a data server. My Experiences: 1.) All systems operate quietly, reliably and easily. They are partly on the desk behind the monitor, which does not bother. 2.) Access via Linux and Windows can be easily and quickly. It is worthwhile to connect the speakers to a Gigabit LAN. 3.) The user interface for the configuration is not the fastest, in the newer device version but recognized more clearly. The newer version can manage it any more user groups. 4) The configuration of Shares and the shares for different users are clearly, adjust individually and easily with a little samba knowledge. 5.) All systems go smoothly in the standby and need about 2 seconds to wake up. 6) The automatic backup from box to box is set up quickly and runs automatically in presettable intervals. The data is not compressed, which has advantages and disadvantages. You have to assign the backup user, the safeguards against unauthorized access can be secure. One can only the entire box automatically back up (copy) can not single directories. A proper Linux server provides as many more variants. 7.) The media server can be per directory for photos, music and videos unlocked separately. Playback on PC, tablet and TV works fine in my LAN, but only if the devices support the respective data formats. I have actual MP3 files that are streamed correctly only by the new device version, not from the old. 8.) The Internet and cloud capabilities of the boxes I do not use, so I can not write anything. 9.) The old box of My Book World Edition had a USB port for expansion and for fast data transfers at high volume. The USB port is on the My Book Live series is no longer on board. With 2TB of boxing patience or PC-night work is called for especially in the "first fill".
Conclusion: The My Book Live - storage offer a solid performance for its low price. There are quiet reliable workhorses on which you can always rely. Who wants 100% in all disciplines, must pay significantly more.
