GETTING STARTED:
The router comes with a French AC adapter, a detachable USB cable and a small ethernet cable.
We can feed it to the mains or diretement on the computer (the router has no battery). The ethernet cable to configure the router manually through the browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, ..), but we can also do it directly via WiFi.
Note that I did NOT use the supplied software on mini-CD to configure the router, preferring manual configuration (I'm used to configure routers).
My 3G stick plugged into the router's USB connector was immediately recognized and the operator of the SIM card (SFR and Orange in my case).
The internet connection was achieved without difficulty.
THE TECHNIQUE:
It is a real router, all the parameters are simply modifiable through the web interface ([...] by default).
WLAN settings (SSID, WPA2 key, etc.), LAN parameters (IP address and subnet mask), DHCP, MAC address filter ... an NTP server can even be configured!
It supports WiFi G and N standards in the 2.4 GHz band.
If desired, the parameters of 3G connection can be configured manually.
What surprises in this router is its flexibility. A 3-position switch selects the operating mode.
1- It can connect to the internet and share the 3G connection with wireless devices (laptop, smartphone, tablet ...) or connect their laptop directly to the router using the Ethernet cable.
2- We can connect on its local network by Ethernet and use them as WiFi extension
3 can be connected directly to an ADSL modem and use it as a wireless router
The up-to-date firmware is simple, from the menu. Just download the manufacturer's website and install firmware through the web interface. The current version of firmware supports future 4G modems.
DOCUMENTATION:
The quick installation guide is in English ... some might not appreciate. If you master English, configuration through the web interface is very comprehensive and very nice: a small leaflet appears to the right of each menu.
But beware ... the manual configuration of a router is not within reach of a beginner. Prefer logicel provided on mini-CD that asks you a few questions and supports the configuration (I have not tested it, but others have done here).
IN CONCLUSION,
this router will quickly become indispensable if you use a 3G stick to connect to the internet and if you want to share the connection (laptop, smartphone, tablet, Kindle ...).
An excellent product at an amazing price.
