Despite the hefty price the budget obviously was not enough for a protective cap, which have all my other camera batteries. Yes also like an internal overload circuit protect the contacts to keep them clean and to indicate the status of the battery against short-circuit, you need the cap anyway.
If you also attract third-party batteries into consideration, be aware that many batteries offered for the Ricoh GR, are not compatible with the current DB-65, but only to the almost identical predecessor DB-60 (the one on the shallower recesses in the recognizes corners). The two types of rechargeable batteries are backwards compatible.
Tips for charger: The particularly compact original charger for Ricoh DB-60 and -65, I found the same under three brand names at very different rates (not to be confused with cheap foreign products offered misleading under the type designations of the camera manufacturer):
Ricoh BJ-6 (pointlessly expensive)
Sigma BC-41
Panasonic / Lumix DE-A12
I bought the original Panasonic charger (Made by Matsushita) which works just fine: Original Charger Panasonic Lumix CGA-S005 DE-A12A
