Opinion:
With the short story The fire of Asshurbanipal Conan creator Robert E. Howard created a further contribution to the Cthulhu Mythos, which was founded by his friend HP Lovecraft. Here an atmospheric blend of horror and adventure story originated. No wonder then that the treasure hunter Steve Clarney of Wolfgang Grapefruit is spoken, the German voice of Harrison Indiana Jones Ford. His oriental companions Yar Ali says the Turkish actor Tayfun Bademsoy for which means the role of the debut in the ensemble of Titania media. Both speakers, grapefruit and Bademsoy, play their roles with a lot of commitment and deny the one-hour radio play almost single-handedly. Only three more speakers are found in the production: Friedrich Georg Beck House as a Persian trader, Kaspar Eichel as Bedouin in the retinue of the slaver Nureddin El Mekru, aka David Nathan. Nathan returns here incidentally after prolonged Titania abstinence for Ensemble back. His last appearance in the chamber of horrors he had resulted in 35 The Castle of the snake. Unforgotten against its performance remains in sequence 3 of the vampire family. That he sees as nasty antagonist his craft shows the voice actor who lends his voice, among others Johnny Depp, in this radio play. The story is well developed and has a constant rising tension. The prehistory until the treasure hunters to reach the dead city is, indeed come a little long, but the underlying tension that the same thing could happen, keeps the listener at the bar. The action is backed also by a very moody, oriental music that fits perfectly with the setting. Robert E. Howard beats with the underlying radio play short story a bridge to his most famous tale of the Cthulhu Mythos: The black stone, from which the entire dead city was built. The story culminates in a bombastic finale that leaves tremble boxing and ultimately proves that the stories of the Cthulhu Mythos in radio drama work much better than they ever could in the film.
