The image quality whether in black or in silver really is visibly better than the Sony SEL50F18 OSS.
The test result on the website photozone.de I can confirm at least subjectively.
On my Sony NEX-7 with the somewhat sensitive 24 MP sensor, the difference between the two lenses can be seen.
The Sigma is more consistently sharp; Sony is weakening
at the edge. Since the resolution is higher, I can see more details as to the Sony.
Unfortunately, Sigma has no image stabilizer and the light intensity is slightly weaker with f2.8.
The clacking inside the tube, I find not exactly inspire confidence, but is in accordance with
Manual represent not a malfunction. Reassuringly I find again the 3-year warranty,
which does not offer Sony (no extra charge).
Consequently, I can recommend to anyone owner of a Sony NEX-7 this glass from Sigma. When using a NEX-5N
is a change from 50mm f1.8 60mm f2.8 for OSS is not absolutely necessary. Here the focus is not profit
so much - at least according to my test images.
