1) Manual:
The printed manual is beliegende tatsächich bit of a joke, but contains valuable tips. Also included in the CD is to find user manual - only an indication of information on the internet without links. The theme of "instructions" but plays no later than after 2 weeks hardly a role. Anyone who has experience with Windows Mobile, must not have problems with the device anyway.
2) Various designs:
Placed on Windows Mobile 6.1 is the partially customizable Samsung menu with its own design. The Omnia is loaded with preinstalled applications, which can then have other skins - depending on whether they are from Samsung, included with Windows, or originate from a third party. Those who want a consistent and uniform design einheitiches menu structure, with a well-equipped and highly flexible Windows Mobile-based device such as the Omnia generally rather ill-advised.
3) crashes:
I also had the phenomenon that the Omnia suddenly no longer allowed to wake up from standby. Since I have but anyway to other widgets incompatible and in my opinion, not very practical Samsung Widgets from the Today screen, the device runs absolutely reliably.
4) GPS reception:
First, here too, the already mentioned by other disappointment is that it takes forever to get the location is determined. In practical use - namely the road and on the move - finds it very quickly and reliably the correct position, and navigates reliably to the destination. Route planning is possible without current location.
5) Not enough video memory:
Windows Mobile applications are not closed on the cross, but only minimized. That was already in Windows CE that. The open applications must therefore be stopped from time to time via the Task Manager before enough memory such as standing for the camera.
6) Display Sharpness:
The display is very good in general and gives no cause for criticism. The Omnia comes with activated "ClearType", which under Settings but - can disable ClearType - System - Screen. Even the picture is sharp pixel.
7) Brightness:
The display when the sun shade off by hand is not a good idea because at delivery apparently operates the small camera above the right as a brightness sensor. Set Lieber on manual brightness control. ;)
8) Photo quality:
For a mobile top! Some settings, if you already know what you will photograph the same. Otherwise, leave to automatic. Compared to correct the tiny digital cameras 5MP camera can not keep up natürich long.
The built-in video light also acts as a lightning and provides even in a dark room stock even halfway usable photos. Outdoors the brightness is only sufficient for close objects.
Plus point: The photo light can be used without a camera as a flashlight. (Keep pressed volume down - must be activated in the settings under "Keys".)
9) Operation:
The Omnia comes with a stylus, which can not be accommodated in the device. I never needed to.
The Omnia offers in addition to the well-responsive touch screen on a mouse pointer that with the Mini-touchpad below the display ("finger mouse" in the settings enabled) can be moved. This also tiny targets can be clicked precisely without covering the essentials with your finger.
In addition, the Omnia has a zoom function (volume up and hold), can be zoomed in on each area continuously in the display with. The choice of screen keyboards / Text recognition is enormous.
10) TV-Out:
The small Omnia is found in the (optional) video cable to a TV or projector (or the composite video input of a PC / laptop: D) connect. There the whole screen contents will output. With mini-touchpad enabled the Omnia served as almost like a game console. HD quality, it has not, of course, but the Bildqaulität on the analog video output is impressive nonetheless. Again, you can choose between portrait and landscape mode by simply rotating the Omnia.
11) Battery life:
With all the features that the Omnia is cluttered, it is not surprising that the battery life can be very low. The battery life is increased, although - as in the brief instructions described - after repeated discharging and charging actually, nevertheless, the device should under heavy use every night to the charger. About USB device can be powered when traveling for example serves as a laptop modem.
12) Sync:
Windows Mobile can not - as I was used to from my previous phone it - synchronize with Windows Contacts and Windows Calendar in Vista. But this is a common problem of the Mobile Device Center on Vista and can not be defined specifically for Samsung load. I'm hoping for an update from Microsoft. :(
The rest of the synchronization via USB or Bluetooth is working properly.
13) Multimedia:
The supplied headphones are good in my opinion nothing and were immediately replaced by my previous headset. Otherwise, the multimedia performance is no reason to complain. Thanks to the Windows Mobile device can be pretty much anything taught. The radio reception is impressive.
14) Phone:
You can make calls with it yet - Oh. The voice quality is very good, there are all known phone features available.
15) Other:
I have some fear for the multifunction terminal, since the supplied charger cable for the cigarette lighter in the car is either too short, or the winding of the cable too tight.
The included mounting bracket for the car but okay.
The cover for the multifunction terminal is impractical. A slide would have been better.
Conclusion:
Samsung's masterpiece is a buy recommendation for anyone who wants a well-equipped pure touchscreen phone in a stylish design, can deal with Windows Mobile, and not be afraid to adjust the device and to optimize their needs. For all other maybe that's fun phone LG Viewty or its successor worth a look if you technically do not want to remain on the level of the most user-friendly iPhone 3G. ;)
4 of 5 stars. Only battery life, instructions and crashes when activated Samsung widgets bring the actually really deserved 5 star basis.
