..... Here I first reached for a "Zoom H2", which handed in very good results with the internal microphones good / (see my Reszension there). The sound is a bit thin, probably because of the microphone capsule size (membrane area) .Störend: Very quiet noise can be due to the digital noise not record whether Internal power or various external microphones to be used .....
..... Then came the "Tascam DP-004", a complete failure purchase (see my Reszension there): The sound of the internal mics was good, albeit quietly. External microphones are thus impossible to operate sense .....
..... Now for the TASCAM DR-100: The high-quality equipment features around on some switches and knobs on the bottom. Thus you can quickly and directly change a setting in the application, such as microphone pre-amplification. This leads to the setting "low" at surprisingly low-noise shots at "mid", the noise level is good at "high" still acceptable. It occurs only on an analog noise, which is technically manageable (DeNoiser, noise gate etc.). The recording level is usually low, actually remarkably mild with both the built-in microphones, as well as with most external mics. However, the signal is relatively clean and can therefore be further processed. "Quiet and noise" is rather like "noisy and dirty", especially digital noise ("herumklimpern" as Störsignalteppich) infested every time. Helpful in Aufnamhe low level is the high resolution of 24 bits at 96 kHz Samplingrate- by the wide dynamic range and better quantization of the analog signal, you have a lot of reserve. The LCD is a good size and brightly lit (dimmed), the most important keys are large and partly illuminated.
Positives:
+ Very good sound from internal directional microphones (90 °)
+ Good Omnidirectional microphone capsule of the second pair
+ Very high resolution 24-bit / 96 kHz possible
+ Good noise ratio of 90 dB
+ Very good service opportunities through many switches / knobs
+ Phantom power and mobile practicable because ...
+ ... LiIon battery and 2 AA batteries can be combined
+ Direct access with PC as WAV files on the memory card
+ Large LCD with lighting, uncluttered presentation
+ Large appliances dimensions facilitate handling
Negatives:
- Low signal level with most external microphones
- Low signal level with the internal microphones
- Supplied windscreen only made of foam (no skin)
- No power supply included (concerning EIA inaudible)
One should not be fooled by the pictures: Although the device acts as a "Handy Recorder" Azla "Zoom H2", 35 mm with 80 mm x 153 mm x but considerably larger. 375 grams of concentrated technology, with battery and alkaline manganese batteries.
Conclusion: For those looking for a quality recording device on the go, the right choice. Even with the internal microphones succeed very good shots, with active microphones at the inputs Reborn.
