Years ago I had initially bought the FR 305. At that time, the GPS clocks were still all clunky and hard to use for everyday use. The 305 could wheel mode will be used mounted to the bike in. She was minimally used for routing and had a large display. GPS was a must for me!
But my needs have changed over the years. For bike I have now a Garmin Dakota. And a GPS clock, I would also like in the leisure wear (eg spontaneous routes with the dog to be able to understand or simply so) and should no longer just be clunky. For four displays on a screen I had not the need, because overwhelmed me while running. GPS, however, it had to be continued.
The FR 610 seemed made for me. It is chic, has, thanks to touch display no buttons on the front, has the stronger battery, what a good week can display the time in sleep mode. And the charging cable is not as cumbersome as its predecessor. The bike function is interrupted and the display can only accommodate a maximum of three ads, at least four displays total. The USB stick sends the data promptly to Garmin Connect, where I can edit it and evaluate.
Other features have remained. In addition to the Virtual Runner I also use the altimeter and compass. But most importantly, clearly, is the average time. How fast can I run the kilometers. But the clock must first find a satellite. That works my impression, albeit minimal, better than the FR 305th
So why not 5 points (and even almost only 3)? Because they do not seem to have been in the matter at Garmin. The often quoted back oxidized actually Chargers few. Scratches through the charging contacts can not be avoided even with the greatest caution. The bracelet is sensitive, I already have to buy a replacement band for more than 20 EURO. The chest strap has less plastic and more for skin lovely rubber fiber tape. The USB stick would like may be a mini-version.
Even if I put the clock in my spare time, I have to deal with it carefully. Especially with the display.
And so I give only 4 stars for a chic functional watch that art houses in small housing GPS, anything can, what the runner needs, but also (unnecessary) has manufacturing defects. Why it is seen as the successor to the FR 305 is beyond me, because the watches are quite different. The new FR 620 is optically more strongly type sports watch and that's not so interesting to me.
Priced it is in this model, as in all Garmin. She started at EURO 300 and will end up after some time probably in 220-250 EURO market price. And then the price / performance ratio is right.
