Did you often larger amounts of data to transfer (eg 20-80 GB), the greatly improved time factor may play a major role. The device is highly recommended, especially on newer Apple laptops that have outputs except USB only two of Thunderbolt.
Needs improvement: The device has only one entrance and must be used as the last in the chain, and of course it would be an advantage if it were looped internally to a Thunderbolt output. (The small LaCie drives do).
Despite the high price, I am very satisfied with my device, since it requires no further power and reduces the duration of the start-up via Thunderbolt port with an SSD for approximately 70%. Who appreciate this advantage with very similar needs.
