POSITIVE:
It is suitable for sewing beginners. (I have previously sewn only from time to time at the old Husqvarna my mother.)
The manual is clear and well written broadly so that you get along even as a beginner without VHS course or other instructions with it. Only the explanations for winding the bobbin thread ('how do I attach the thread correctly on the bobbin?') I found very shortly.
You can operate the machine intuitively.
There are provided 3 Needles.
NEUTRAL, but important to know:
The thread is now and then smeared with oil. That's with the first wash but went out again. (Possibly help out with washing up liquid.)
Various yarn packages (eg 2500m Trojalock) are unsuitable for this machine, because the yarn is clamped horizontally.
(Coil not continuous eg too big / hole in the middle)
Changing the needle is cumbersome in terms of the fixing screw. There is a need of a screwdriver in order to solve this. (Which is not supplied, and the shortest screwdriver fit just so between the screw and the right part of the sewing machine.)
NEGATIVE:
Especially in the beginning crack continuously (approximately every 20cm!) Of the upper thread. I tried to change the needle thread tension; that has brought little improvement.
The bobbin thread gets tangled up regularly, often in the middle of the seam, and is completely loose (adjust the stitch length has completed the remedy in terms of tension?).
The sewing machine 'hooked' repeatedly. Often the needle manually rotated forward and backward must be until a further condition Sewing is possible.
CONCLUSION:
The Singer 8280 is a simple sewing machine for simple requirements. Who wants to put a ball gown, has no joy with this machine. Despite the negative points between temporal hair-scuffling near but I like it, because after all, that's faster than by hand. ;) However: Once again, I would probably not buy the machine, but I opt for a slightly more expensive model that can more.
