SIREN in a new dimension

Siren: Blood Curse (video game)

Customer Review

(Based on the Asian retail version)

What happens if one intends to find elements of great video games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Metal Gear and this mixes skillfully with Asian horror? The answer is "Forbidden Siren"

The third part of the now more fairly successful series appeared primarily as a downloadable game on PlayStation Network. Of course, it was also designed for optimal, because as in the previous titles also "Blood Curse" (or "New Translation") is divided into chapters on. The highlight this time: All the chapters are as raised a television series, with preload, title, body and preview of the next "episode".

I would rather chose the paid version, because I wanted to deal large amounts of data on my 80 GB PS3, but the game is unfortunately thwart this bill. Again a data pack is installed on the hard drive - and a not exactly small.

This can be put away safely but because for the game itself has barely load times and completely convincing. Amazingly here is the fact that the game with its looks "only" 720p resolution plain and simple "hammer". It does not have to hide them from MGS4 or an upcoming FFXIII, no, SIREN looks on the PS3 really well and still much darker than it has ever done.

The story of "Blood Curse" can tell quickly. A TV crew from America wants a report about a mysterious village - Hanuda - making, which is supposed to be gone and known for human sacrifices. Once there it will also be about to witness such an act and before you know it you are in the middle of the game.
More or less we can say that the player is simply thrown into the deep end and then may earn everything piece by piece itself. The whole story is in fact only gradually reveals what makes a great appeal to "Siren".

It is then hit by the split in chapter story, or to sneak As in the other titles in the series. These individual chapters are always divided into small main and side quests available to meet and the way through the part manageable but very crooked level sections indicate. Actually quite simple, if it were not the enemy, in the form of zombie-like locals - called Shibuto - would.

Veterans of "Siren" games know these fellows have, however, these have been revised slightly in the latest installment. Were these creatures, at least I know them only so far as, quite slow and "wisest" funny noises to himself they are now something more human and thus significantly more sinister. Although they speak Japanese, what now not everybody understands, but they communicate properly, call for help, they go "business days" after, and much more.

Also an old element, but "reinvented" the Sidejacking - a chance to see what other "people" (enemies, friends) see at the moment. The innovation of "Blood Curse" is as simple as it is ingenious, because via a button you can set the selected view as split screen and has thus always in view what the possible Shibuto near so provides.

What is still clearly noticeable that the stealth element has got a lot more weight. It applies, for example, emissions without any weapon (as a child!) To fulfill, while one is limited only to the ability of the crawl and the laying false trails. Quick set an alarm clock is ringing and the opponents attracts, hiding under a bed and wait until the air is pure ... here are virtually no limits.

Ever seems to have yet found something more to minimalism Siren. While you really still find very little weapons in the game - mostly to use just what one finds just such as a simple TV antenna - is this element of style attracts also by the design of the pack, the menus and the OST continues like a red thread through , Especially the OST blooms through the minimal use wonderful and the few sombre "monk chants" (as I will call it) stay much more intense at the players themselves adhere and act more authentic than a soundtrack of blaring constantly from the speakers.

The voice acting is also impeccable and it is spoken in both English and Japanese. Opponents and residents speak in their mother tongue, while the US television crew certainly speaks English. Nice to look at, or listen, here's a little feature that I have experienced in any game so far: figures speak by themselves; In other words: Two "language levels" are superimposed. So speaks a figure, it may happen that this is really interrupted by another character, which is very real and not checked as it is otherwise in the case matches. At the beginning it requires some getting used, but carries it very quickly in intensity at.

Unfortunately, I must confess, however, I feel the control via Sixaxis then something strange. "Shaking the controller for reloading ammunition or shaking of opponents". Well, does not sound bad, but it just feels weird. I can only underline again and again: The Sixaxis is not suitable for control via movement, at least not to simulate weapons or other specific things. It often happens, however, not before that this feature is needed, so I push times both eyes.

Only remains the question of "Is the because now a remake of Part 1 or not?". The answer: yes and no. The game has several missions that really could come from part 1 and it almost makes you not big cover-up. But it is all by the look and the new staging more intense and a completely new experience. Apart from a few déjà vu experiences so you get offered a completely new gaming experience.

Those looking for an alternative variant to Silent Hill or Resident Evil really should access here. The game is worthwhile in every respect. The fun factor gets still "only" two stars, because it is not purely and simply so much fun to see the defaced characters and Gore deposits.
