Summary of my experiences + Very small and fanless, with 8W to my measurements + With RAID 1 mirrored memory available (higher data security, but half the capacity) + File server with Samba / CIFS protocol from Windows and Linux PC over the network accessible + Access rights of individuals and groups set + Imminent update is automatically displayed , Transfer speed bearable, not fast , Direct Backup possible (without PC) another LinkStation, also slowly - Media Server (DLNA) unfortunately only moderately used at great expense because properties can not be set - Misleading in the messages in disk check "Format HDD" (since many software versions)
Some features of the device I do not use however. Responsive is the file server from Windows Explorer with "\\ konfigurierter_servername" and of Linux Nautilus & Dolphin with "smb: // eingestellte_ip_adresse". It is configured via the web interface.
Conclusion: The product is recommended as a file server, especially when space is limited and not too high expectations.
