The highlights on the album for me are definitely the singles "Frozen" and "The Power of Good-Bye", both very emotional ballads. In addition to "Shanti / Ashtangi" comes "Frozen" especially spiritually therefore. The melody is simple to a firework display. "The Power of Good-Bye" but also sounds great. Especially the lyrics of the song are terrific, although they are repeated often. Here the parting is processed simple - and at a much greater effect on the listener! It's also nice to listen to the hopeless "To Have and Not to Hold", also a quiet ballad. The pieces "Nothing Really Matters" and "Little Star" act of her daughter. In the former title Madonna clearly says that love is all we need. In this video she can be seen with a baby in her arms. The title is a great up-tempo piece with clear bass. The sweet "Little Star" is aimed directly at her daughter, because this song is considered bedtime song for her. The contrast makes the final song "Mer Girl". Unlike all the other songs on "Ray of Light" this title is quite instrumentalkarg therefore, but all the more intense when it comes to the text. Here processed Madonna once again the death of her prematurely deceased mother - and that in a rather unusual, sad and shocking way. One might think, she tells a nightmare. Especially the last few seconds of "Mer Girl" prepare goosebumps. The music is from, you only hear Madonna's singing, which sounds quite fragile there. A memorable conclusion for a good album.
Poor tracks on the album, there are not only "skin" I find to "rave-heavy" and also a little too hectic, so I hear the song not as often as the others. Through the influences of their producers, the album is, however, generally quite flooded Elekro- and dance-pop, which is but mostly succeeded.
Conclusion: "Ray of Light" is a mature album with lots of nice bonds to the techno scene. Through its increased vocal potential and profound lyrics Madonna proves once and for all that you can not make as quickly disputed the throne of the Queen of Pop. She always manages to make its ambitious arts mass appeal. "Ray of Light" is no exception.
