I was totally excited after the Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence on the new album. All the more disappointed I was when I first heard the CD. Had I written the review immediately, no more than 1 star would probably be carried out. I wanted to give away or sell again. The CD is built mainly on the guitar. Portnoy plays again quite nice, but is not as dominant as in the past albums. The sound, however, is quite dull and deep. It will not occur "fresh" sites and sounds and it will not tell a story. Each piece stands on its own. The solo part will be on new speed records, but leave the virtuosity of the older works are missing. After I read are about 2 weeks, the CD and they sounded again, I could at least suffer 2 songs somewhat. All the appear to me still pretty drab, dark and dull. After another 2 weeks, the other pieces were not bad at once. The 2 songs were awesome in the meantime. Only now I could hear the subtleties, perceive the brilliant timing and recognize these common rhythm changes again. Finally, I hear now the CD every day and know always new subtleties and admire again the musicianship. However, there remains this: The overall mood is aggressive, dark and dull. Unlike the other discs, the guitar is this time clearly dominant. I've never experienced anything like that the mood on this CD of absolute Enttäuschund to large approval so varies and only developed so hard in a relatively long time. Who runs this CD has to deal with her and open only after a few weeks you. Fans of DT should definitely give a chance to the CD. You will recognize the group. Who does not know, will be hard pressed.
