At The Beginning: The Tascam US-144Mk II does (almost always - more on that later), what it is: bring Analog audio in good quality to the computer and the whole thing in the other direction, if necessary. The most important point, the audio quality, first: In both directions (analog input -> USB and vice versa) is the quality for this price range totally fine, who does not have any really good monitor system, is probably not even hear the difference a better interface in direct comparison. As for the quality via the digital inputs / outputs, I can not say anything, because that did not work - that's the only real weakness that I could discover: It was not possible for me, a signal present at the digital input, to get through the USB port - both when I want to record only the digital input, and when I try to record digital and analog inputs at the same time. In addition, the device does not have a stand-alone mode, so it can be (seemingly?) Used without a PC as a microphone preamp or not even to convert analog signals into digital.
Who has such a front, I recommend instead the M-Audio Fast Track Pro (because if one still gets a distended) with which this has been worked out fine.
Or similar driver issues I had on Windows 7 64-bit far only in the sense that the driver occasionally swallowed the standby mode and so the PC upon waking suddenly a blue screen shows - annoying, but at least I have never what happens during a recording or similar.
