Something loveless Retrospective 2003

After his unexpected death in late 2014, this Best Of album from 2003 is sure to sell well again, as it is a plus his latest compilation and with 2 CDs and 30 songs. Many of his greatest hits specially those are also available after his comeback from 1982. If you are looking after will also be largely satisfied with The Ultimate Collection. Since his comeback that was the least fourth Best Of by Definite 1987 Best Of Joe Cocker in 1992 and Greatest Hits 1998 levels.
Nevertheless, this is not the Ultimate as the title promises. It begins with the unused cycle time of half an hour. But one has better (at least in my edition) to decided this to waste with a copy.
With Shelter Me, High Time We Went and especially Hitchcock Railway some of his absolute live standards are missing. By With A Little Help From My Friends is actually the live version of Woodstock with which he has been known preferable to the studio version. Since Cocker was successful mainly from the late '80s in Germany, I would have liked it to have had his Schimanski-Tatort song by Janis Joplin Now That You're Gone. I Can Hear The River and Do not Let Me Be Misunderstood I miss. The 70s are quite underrepresented, the part a little bit banal late work against it too lush with only 3 songs. This was rarely out for him specially written songs, but often out of rock classics, which Cocker at best, left its own mark. With songs like the two Elton John classics Do not Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word and Never Tear Us Apart by INXS but that was apart from his voice less the case than Unchain My Heart, You Can Leave Your Hat On, With A Little Help From My Friends or Summer in the City, where he also musically another Twist missed.

The meager 8-page booklet provides a fine print about Cockers career, 2 recent photos as well as songwriters and publishing credits to the respective songs, but no Produktionsnotzien or lyrics.
Technically sound bounce between the old and newer songs successive also worlds. Since a chronological order of the songs would have been better perhaps.

Conclusion:
As long as it better than The Ultimate Collection is nothing, this double CD is indeed still the best choice, but unfortunately with some unused game time, lack of songs, inferior versions and a very scarce booklet. A somewhat loveless publication. For more than 3 stars I can not bring himself to.
Representing all more to his early work, which is the double CD Anthology 1999 recommended. With 37 songs incl. Some rarities This provides an almost perfect showcase of mid-60s until the album Sheffield Steel from 1981 and the soundtrack Hit Up Where We Belong.
The now rare and no longer reissued extensive 1995 4 CD box set The Long Voyage Home is available unfortunately only to collectors prices. Let's hope that on the occasion of his death and his 70th birthday in 2014 finally appropriate music Cockers is assumed with a good showcase. With Hard Knocks, fire it up and I Come In Peace are also to come from his last two albums a few good songs.
