James Cameron's Avatar: The Game (Video Game)

Customer Review

Eagerly I Avatar expected. After the film was very excited, I was curious about the computer game.

Caveat: To copy I let myself sometimes not, and try as impartially as possible to evaluate the product, even if it is somewhat difficult for me in these draconian measures by Ubisoft. May everyone be your own opinion thereof, and weigh the seriousness of this aspect for him.

Graphics and sound are convincing, but ask for the latest conditions also truly no milestone. The game is really impressive, especially the colorful exotic world of Pandora, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

To Genre: While Avatar is something of a role-playing game, but I feel this aspect rather than incidental. There are dialogues with the NSC, but you have no way to refer to these conversations or influence to choose between different options, you look this (short) passages to more like a movie. There is one exception, and that involves a question of whether it is reflected on the side of the Na'vi or RDA (people). Also one can not skillen the character. It does not distribute attribute points, do not buy any weapons or other equipment, but gets with increasing XP (experience points) automatically better skills (there are four of them from start to finish, to improve) and weapons. Attributes, or something like that does not exist.

About the story: In a first phase the character is introduced and you learn the game by means of some small jobs know. You may take one to two hours of play. Here I found the "spirit" of the movie Avatar still relatively present and well implemented. That was the phase that quite grabbed me and where I really liked this game. Admittedly, the jobs are all rather simplistic of the story here, because you can not expect miracles, but they are fun. Driving around with the different vehicle models has really a significant entertainment value, I also realized great.

Now the players will decide whether he plays on the side of the Na'vi or cooperates with the RDA.

General:

There follows a section with four quasi equal running larger jobs. This is followed by a short guy and the game is over. I admit, I have followed only the main quest, but by good eight hours it was over! I find too short for a game of this price. After all, I was a little reconciled, when I again started from the front and the RDA chose. The change value is given clear obtained in part very different jobs. So you can virtually start from 16-18 hours of playing time, which is an estimate, of course, because everyone is going differently and has its own pace. Nevertheless, I found the story a little too thin and too short. Like me have the four special abilities of the character, which he can activate a short time until they have recharged: healing, speed, "paralysis" of opponents and invisibility in Na'vi.

Na'vi:

+ The character is very agile and moves swiftly through the landscapes. This is very pleasant from the gameplay ago and not so tedious.
+ The weapons of the Na'vi have pleased me very well, there are fantastic melee weapons and the crossbow is the hammer.
+ Beneficial "different" compared to other games / shooting games. The idea with the Na'vi breathes new life into the game and to me it was fun times shooting with a crossbow and all these things. Great character in blue, huge and with a long tail wagging hintendran, I was very amused.

- Sometimes very difficult-to-find places, since climbed up and must be sought at different height levels, I found a little confusing
- The mount quite annoying in the control

RDA:

+ Nice vehicles to navigate be fun

- The weapons I found a bit annoying. The damage is simply too low. This led some to everlasting life Baller orgy where you permanently just yet heard shooting sounds.
- Because people are much smaller, one moves annoying slowly across the prairie. And with the car you just can not continue and must often walk.
- Story with the people something in 08/15 Feeling.

Conclusion: Avatar has definitely won me over and cast a spell. I could not stop playing, especially since I was very curious about what course the story takes and how the end is. The world is pretty, handsome and pleasing. On the other hand, there is no difficulty to be set, so that a company, the other may be more overwhelmed. The story itself could be lush and looks a little one-dimensional, there still would more. Also, the gameplay, though it irritates, has some weaknesses that you can not bear to some extent. I do not regret the purchase, but the price / performance ratio is rather a bit boring.
