The "shelves" are really paper thin, not very strong, really only for 3 pairs of shoes. Have a precaution given only light summer shoes. The heavier shoes I have housed in a same shoe rack with thicker connecting pipes and thicker shelves of another provider. For the price you can not expect danger. Unfortunately, the penetrating chemical smell is not gone, day and night have to put out the window and keep the door closed. For basement or storage the shelf is enough for the apartment I recommend it not, except chemical smell does not bother. ,
