LITTLE ADDITIONAL INFO: I currently also the MG6450 are here, but it does not seem very different from the MG5550 to. However, he has a slot for SD card (but the same USB port). Is of printing quality and speed quite the same as the MG5550, so I would not recommend these also.
My recommendation remains the Canon Pixma MG5350. Had here after a few months of use (and it really was much in use) none of the problems that I had with the MG5550 and MG6450 to.
------------------------------------------
I bought a few months ago the Canon Pixma MG5350, the price in the same class is (EDIT 14:04:14: Is so no longer, the price has risen sharply), as the MG5550 and unfortunately here was the comparison pretty sobering out.
Let's start from the external impression.
Even as I unpacked the device, I found that there is the top of the lid color variations (on the black lid is in the middle around Canon symbol a large crescent-shaped color deviation of plastic). If the optical flaw was yet to get over, it's the cheap material with the unfortunately the printer is not processed. The cover looks so fragile that they are reluctant to raise it and otherwise the printer does not siginificant.
What strikes yet that there is only one paper cassette. This has the consequence that one must always refer to any paper, if you want to get print in a different format. When MG5350 has here, for example. Even a rear compartment and therefore does not have to change the paper.
Surprised, I was also on the USB port, which is located at the back (& then only inconvenient reached) the device is. Unfortunately, it's not a normal O port, but a B port - thus you need an AB cable. Such a cable should however have the fewest home and it must therefore buy more (there is none that is also attached). I personally find very annoying.
After me, the printer has not optically now hewed off the stool, he had me so still can technically convincing. If, however, he has not. Let's start with the fact that the printer starts after each print job with a cleaning process. This takes a bit of color each time and we all know how expensive Canon color cartridge.
From the print quality can be said that he is okay. For normal text and document printing it is sufficient, but who also like to want to bring his photos on paper is definitely better off with the MG5350. The quality of photos is now not necessarily bad, but they work in color faded as the starting material. However, this is not the purpose when prints his photos himself.
A positive mention can I wring me. The WLAN integration works simply and easily.
CONCLUSION:
I can the PIXMA MG5550 unfortunately not recommend. For the price, there are (also from the Canon brand, but also from other manufacturers) much better and more versatile printer.
I have long wondered if I should just awarded one star because the MG5550 suitable for document printing and prints photos in "good" quality, I have awarded 2 stars.
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend you the MG5350. He has easily accessible slots for USB sticks and SD cards can also be integrated via WLAN and can print on CDs. Apart from that, he makes a high quality impression, printed images in better quality and does not start after each job equal to the cleaning process.
