You Got My Mind Messed Up (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Ha, that can not possibly be .... There is in all of this - unnecessary - Vintage Soul din the last decade a la Sharon Jones, Lee Fields etc. indeed not a single review to master the Southern Souls on Amazon.com ! He was among connoisseurs as the greatest absolute number of 60 Souls, greater than Otis Redding, at least at Aretha Franklin zoom-reaching, both very highly of him. He had a vocal range as ... Don Van Vliet, a sharpness in the phrasing like Otis Redding or even Wilson Pickett, while far more sophisticated than the latter. He had the right Studios him Goldwax, his label, made available, either the Sun Studios or the Hi and Stax. He had a top songwriter team in the background, which ranged from George Jackson to Dan Penn / Chips Moman and even Otis Redding, whose These Arms Of Mine him covered. He could even Country-Soul with singing Steels, demonstrates how to this compilation of the Bonus Track My Adorable One.
And anyway Dan Penn .... Dan Penn is At The Dark End Of The Street - and again not, because, strictly speaking, this is the song by James Carr, his song - one knows the song, he is known by him, similar Sunny shot of Bobby Hepp or Suspicious Minds Elvis. Yet projects that song, at least on its You Got My Mind recording 1967 not even out, because everything is just right, song by song: Southern Soul of hitherto unmatched style!

.... And the sound restored perfectly in the form of the original album from 1967, from Kent, supplemented with 12 extra tracks - the full Memphis Soul Dröhnung. If you listen to at that, you wonder why it is not, as presented in Redding to an extraordinaire international career. Carr even produced a second album and a few singles in the same style and quality, then was for year-end.
Presumably Goldwax the wrong label for him, Atlantic and Stax had placed him professional, perhaps his voice was too big, too bulky, maybe he was in the sound too much like the typical mid-tempo Memphis - so a wide river eventually flows slowly - tethered , a couple with more powerful up-tempo stuff in style of Otis, Wilson and Sam & Dave would certainly have done him good, he could certainly, as his version of Sock It To Me - Baby! or Love Is A Beautiful Thing - the way of Felix Cavaliere, knows the yet ?! - Prove quite. But I suspect that he was not made as a whole for a Redding design .... Who knows - anyway, you need to have, and what is absolutely!

PS. There is a strange analogy to all the black artists in the 60 tried in the intersection between country and soul - so it was really big no! However, the country's share in Carr played a really negligible role.
