What the just disintegrating Beatles but succeeded in an impressive way, was to create a truly sovereign classic which today to convince by its harmony and perfection knows and beyond enthällt many a highlight.
It had no longer expected well after the "Let It Be" -Desaster so that the band would still pull together one last time in order to take up this last album together with George Martin. Fortunately, George Martin was persuaded to produce the new album, though he had been with the photographs of the "White Album" and "Let it be" more than satisfied. On "Abbey Road" Martin was finally allowed again, as on the previous success of albums bring its proven mode of production, which can be heard at the perfect and harmonious arrangements and the quality of the recordings immediately. He should not have repented, because according to his own statements, this last production was even his favorite Beatles album!
The A-side of the Additional Rate LP contained 6 songs of different styles of which Lennon's "Come Together" and Harrison's "Something" of course, particularly stand out. With his second self-written song, the childlike cheerful "Octopuss Garden", succeeded Ringo finally still deliver a good song, which was even brought to the later "Blue Album".
Paul is represented by the malevolent "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and the passionate presented "Oh! Darling", both of which are typical Macca compositions that are very nice to listen to. The finale of the A-side at that time was the long rocking "I want you" of John, in which he could shout out his former state of mind completely optimum way.
George ''s second absolute gem "Here comes the sun" opened the B-side, which the classically-inspired "Because" by John follows. This piece impressed today by its enchanting vocal harmonies.
After two songs, the grandiose medley, in which it was possible fragmentary and incomplete individual songs by John and Paul follows merge into a harmonious and coherent whole. The conception of the medley we mainly owe McCartney, who has done here together with George Martin great work. Especially nice moments in it for me "Sun King", "You never give me your money", "Golden Slumbers" and Paul's poignant closing hymn "The End". Hard to believe that this beautiful medley was born only out of necessity in order to still process the existing song material on the album can.
Furthermore, it should be mentioned that Ringo Starr on "Abbey Road" ran aground on true top form and has delivered with its sensitive, yet extremely powerful drumming an absolute peak power. Since it überedeten the other Beatles to Ringo was even his first and Einzigstes Drumm solo for the band for good. (Ringo was underestimated completely wrong!)
With the outstanding "Something" was chosen as a further novelty the first time a Harrison song as a single from which underlines impressively that made George a mature songwriter had become.
Originally the album "Everest", should read, because of the same preferred brand of cigarettes (with a mountain silhouette on the packaging) by sound engineer Geoff Emerick. Man contemplating therefore that the Beatles should travel to the Himalayas, there to shoot the pictures for the cover. But this elaborate idea was rejected and so contented themselves finally with a photo showing the band in their famous crossing of the "Abbey Road" and called the album just like the street in which there was the music studio. A good choice, since this cover was finally absolute cult and has since been copied countless times. Because like all the "Paul is dead" -Gerüchte who then was built in conjunction with the photo, have a significant share.
In short, "Abbey Road" is an album that wrote history. It has a legendary packaging, many good individual songs as well as the outstanding Abbey Road Medley the B-side, which can act this album as a unified whole. Unimpressed by the musical changes of the past 39 years seems this classic today fresh and inspired. This album is a must for music lovers and can also be placed only newcomers warmly !!
