This compilation of hits by John Denver makes it comprehensible and clear why country and rock fans often so difficult to do with him. Some of his songs are simply awesome and almost out of this world. In "Leaving on a jetplane," I could break every back in tears, although I certainly have heard hundreds of times the thing already. Unfortunately, John Denver had also the fatal tendency to drown some of its basically quite appealing songs in sweet syrup. The often distinctive song ideas, then suffocate too often in a sea of strings and winds. Presumably this is due to the American music market, but spoils some other listeners the joy.
