The Lost Tribe of the Sith includes all nine ever written short stories about the Lost Tribe of the Sith. The first tie-in to the appearance of the Lost Tribe in the series Fate of the Jedi remembered as a short story series developed perhaps also thanks to the author John Jackson Miller (known for his novel Kenobi, the comic series Knights of the Old Republic and Knight Errant) a mind of its own which culminated in a separate comic and a ninth short story. However, some time before the Disney deal, the project failed precisely at this change from medium eBook in the comic program and ended with the first and only comic arc spiral.

~ Short outline of the contents of ~

Without too much to spoil: Precipice begins with exactly that fateful final mission of the cruiser omen, which leads to a crash of the ship on the cut-off from the rest of the galaxy planet Kesh. There, the castaways must quickly come to terms with the planet on first not being able to escape and begin to build their own society that wants to take its rightful place in the galaxy one day. But the road is long and in addition to hostile natives the Sith themselves are their biggest enemy, the rise of the lost tribe is not without turning points.

The course of the short stories can be roughly divided into three periods: foundation, crisis and reformation. Are we witnessing first the struggle for survival of the crew and the rise of Corsican dynasty we learn early enough the potentially double-edged sword, which the Sith made use of in order to justify their claim to power over the native Keshiri - they turn out to be the mystical protectors of the Keshiri -Überlieferung is. But it is precisely this legend and its connection of protectors and destroyers could be the Sith also appear as the destroyer.

Author John Jackson Miller (JJM) uses in his narrative of episodic style, which should be well known as some other concepts from the Star Wars franchise knowledgeable readers of science fiction masterpiece Foundation. So it is also in the history of the Tribe Seldon crises that are told and pave the way for the next chapter respectively. But unlike in the sci-fi classic is Great Lord Hari Seldon no Korsin I. and the Tribe is left at many crossroads themselves.

~ The characters ~

JJM was and is Minimalist. As a former comic book writer, Miller sees it primarily represent by subtle hints traits that often can be ignored, however. It is this suggestion that there will be something to read between the lines and the incentive to use their own imagination instead of going after the vile written word, but with the interest of the reader is either up or down. In short, depending on the reading will be understood Miller's characterization as either superficial or arousing interest.

Too profound reflections of his characters one can of Miller certainly not expect the claim is of Lost Tribe of the Sith quite different than, say, a George RR Martin in the Song of Fire and Ice. Miller, however, follows more in the footsteps of Isaac Asimov, the Foundation in the short stories that have been grouped on the novel later on again several sequels and prequels followed his protagonist, also little profound with were on their way. Asimov's characters were created to go their way and often to act as envisaged in the great plan for them. Miller's characters act no different, but the style of writing is just another. Miller's style of story develops during the course to where you can find him years later in his novel Kenobi, namely at its peak.

~ (K / M) a vote ~

Miller's daring to walk in the footsteps of the greats of the genre and willingly expose all sorts of possible criticism is admirable. Just as the end result, which is to my chagrin found no imitation in the franchise to date. Just as Asimov inspired the Foundation because he dealt with Edward Gibbons 'History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' is perhaps Miller's story of the rise of the lost tribe might still rather something than for those readers who historically more Adventure stories interesting.

Because my reading already some time ago and have not received my stand-out blemish on this work in mind, I as a reviewer I voted quite positive. But at the same time the author John Jackson Miller has left a little more striking impression on me. If indeed the enthusiasm for the concept and the performance gets stuck, but still stands out the work in itself is neither very positive or negative is a top rating in my eyes but not justified. An excellent idea (5 star), well implemented (4 stars), but little else will be remembered (3 stars, mediocrity - Move Along) - results in incorruptible calculation 12 of 15 points and 4 stars.

~ A kind of epilogue ~

Actually, it was not my intention one day but once drawn up a review. But the Expanded Universe with whom I've become grown up as Star Wars fan and familiar is dead. Legends are myths, lies where many still clings. From a purely practical that world is the one was familiar to 2014 no longer Star Wars and is almost on a par with fan fiction. Nevertheless, it has already been announced for this full-bodied dead nunmehrigen parallel universe (the Disney buyout has now been made in this respect similar Marvel Star Wars) to still want to degrade years some gems. This saves it to authors who write now the EU practically new, having to invent too many things new. Instead, we expect countless satisfactory as unsatisfactory Reboots already known material.

Just as one may accuse George Lucas and other science fiction creators, they had cribbed about their predecessors (one only once remember all the inspirations which Lucas himself may have obtained from Isaac Asimov's Foundation), will any future author in this franchise to have to put accused of having served in his immediate predecessors. What is well managed in the uncanonical era probably sooner or later such a reboot may enjoy, as probably the Lost Tribe of the Sith.

~ Summary ~
By Trantor until after Terminus - sorry, from Coruscant to Tatooine one of the most interesting multimedia projects from the last years of the Expanded Universe. Rest in peace and may the force be with you.
