What is new is hardly anything; yet the missions are designed quite varied. So it is possible, inter alia, in the later stages of the game, some missions long play Raynor Zeratul Protoss buddy that distracts a little from the Terran life, but no more than a tutorial group. Whether Zerg are also playable, I can not say at this time; but I'm assuming also "hint" this later to be allowed.
The story as a whole is quite interesting, albeit unsurprisingly. The remotely controlled by an evil power Zerg access to the universe while the Terrans bring among themselves ambivalent whether they should follow Imperator Mengsk or Raynor hero, be asked by the Oberprotoss Zeratul Zergkönigin on their side. At least, the rough storyline.
What is new and is intended to ensure the atmosphere interaction after each mission on the spaceship of the Terrans, the Hyperion. As you can click on this and that and buy upgrades and enable in-game animations. Really good solution I can not find the though; the interaction options are limited and do not affect the story. Also the very neat modeled characters on the Hyperion enhance the graphical weakness of the actual game.
For graphically the game is unfortunately so weak that it would have been even 2 years ago, just standard. The engine looks like a bored Warcraft 3 - from version. The units and buildings look quite rough, edgy and the textures are outdated mushy. Required not so many keyboard shortcuts and mouse, it would have been an ideal console game. Antialiasing should set mandatory in the driver, because the game itself offers no option for it.
In the video sequences, the level is high, but not very high. These look pretty good, the developers do only with feet and hands seem difficult to continue.
The sound, however, is much better; although I can not remember me ambient noise, the speaker of the German version are well chosen. At the translation is certainly nothing to complain about. Even ingame logos were translated into German. Nice.
This is all the more astonishing as that one was apparently sure SC2 would receive in Germany uncensored one for ages 12 years. The game is clearly war and glorifying violence ("war is dragging on, with all its glory"), bloody and trivialized alcohol and tobacco consumption. In addition, it forces the recognition of Terms and EULA (which among other things allow the storing and use of chats by Blizzard / Activision).
It is also doubtful that strong alignment of SC2 to the (e-Sports) multiplayer. It teems with leagues and statistics, Achievments and other stuff that can be used to distinguish themselves towards others (or not). On a proper chat but was (for reasons of cost?) Saves. As someone else has already been remarked more than likely that the publisher this "Service" will be paying more in the future.
The balance of the races itself, as its predecessor, is very well balanced. The Zerg produce quickly and economically weaker units Protoss slow and expensive stronger. The people fall somewhere in between. The micromanagement, so that to-order units-care, is still quite annoying. Can memorize keyboard shortcuts is certainly an advantage. Unfortunately, the game can very quickly become very confusing, to locate individual units (such as the hero in the solo game) are very annoying. Special attacks must also often be activated per unit.
The AI of computer opponent was probably transferred 1: 1 from the predecessor. Even today, these attacks directly defenses to, rather than worrying about their energy sources. The healer always plays at the forefront of human shield ...
For me personally, a good, but not a very good game. This is partly due to the sadly outdated graphics, on the other hand to the bloated Multiplayer. Was the first part of the time a revolution, this time you went on a bit too safe. The yield thoughts seem omnipresent; the measly manual, the lack of LAN mode and the (optional) Facebook sharing speak for themselves. Interesting; and in this genre only by the predecessor in danger of running Starcraft 2 in the RTS field still out of competition.
-Nachtrag: Zerg you can not allude unfortunately yet. The end of the story is also more than poor and leaves many questions unanswered ...
