I tend to quickly get an idea of the current novel. In general, after fifty pages, I already know if the story please me or not. It was not the case with only against all. The first hundred pages gave me trouble. I immediately hooked up with the character of Mickey but not with Victoria. Another element that disturbed me: the formal address between the two heroes. Seriously, who has already vouvoyé a schoolmate? I found this choice (translation?) Very strange and unrealistic. Their exchanges lacked natural, until they pass suddenly, without reason or explanation, and in the middle of a page, tu.
From there, I stopped focusing on me and the story began to please me! The further I went the more I loved this novel. I noticed some caveats in passing but written by Lucy Connors is so addictive that I am disregarding these defects!
Since I am a sincere columnist, I'm still talking about the little dot that embarrassed me a tad: the relationship between Victoria and Mickey started too fast. Yes Romeo and Juliet loved each other with a look but let the romance of classic side. In our time it takes realism! Lucy Connors proposes a dual narrative, so we'll see our heroes fall quickly in love with the one and the other. Mickey is magnificent Victoria and it's mutual. Their attraction is primarily physical then they will get to know and be seduced by their respective personalities. Lucy Connors leaves some privacy to our heroes, so they can discover but the conflict Whitfield / Rhodale goes perhaps a bit too fast across their path. Unlike the first, Lucy Connors then develops rather well their relationship. Prejudice will seffriter, complicity will settle and confidence mixed with doubt. Romance is initially very cliché but after the session, Mickey and Victoria are revealed and you begin to believe in their feelings and their relationship.
Mickey charmed me from the beginning. His family has a bad reputation and is immersed in the drug, even if the father is the sheriff. In high school, he came under the bad influence of his brothers and dealers can not escape the name of Rhodale. Only Victoria will refuse to listen to gossip, to make itself an opinion on Mickey. Yes, it is sometimes violent but never without reason. Mickey has a big heart and intends to remain himself, far from the tricks of his brothers.
Victoria often annoyed me because it will constantly blowing hot and cold with Mickey. If life seems perfect, it is not. Alcoholic sister, parents fully inserted blinders ... Victoria also has a family problem. Her only support is his little brother and his grandmother that he will be of no use for her story with Mickey. It is a Whitfield and also, more hate than any Rhodale.
The novel is dark enough to view the topics addressed: alcoholism, drugs, resentment and vendetta will be the focus of the novel. Only sometimes against all got me thinking about the series of Irresistible Simone Elkeles that takes place in the middle of gangs. One finds one hand, this context full of violence and on the other, this love relationship that develops between two of young people who had nothing in common and who will have to fight to stay together.
In conclusion, despite some flaws, this new series has its assets and potential. A sequel is planned, we will meet again soon our crossed lovers!
A pleasant reading.
