There was great excitement when two years ago the debut of four südbajuwarischen musicians. A true Kofimania moved by land and captured at least in its foothills and some of us up here in the far Prussia. For the first time in a long time we again had the current music player, in which the reference machine failed: Something you had not yet heard any comparisons limping piteously that tests an unambiguous classification failed miserably. My favorite part was still the combination Biermösl Blosn and Can add sound texts of Valentin and spruce, but there was really appropriate descriptions for this as strange as wonderful music simply not could not give it. So now is with fence in front of the followers. Stylistically has basically not changed much the instruments persists exotic metal fan, accordion and guitar (albeit this time briefly appears a piano, but that does not). Yet it must be acknowledged that the group has not just delivered only a modified edition of the first album. Further development can be seen clearly, both musically and lyrically. Whether you feel the changes as more enjoyable, probably depends on individual taste. I personally like the debut still better, I think, the Group has calculated allow to fence those elements somewhat into the background, who were their real strengths earlier. This starts with the lyrics: The new songs have largely correct lyrics, with content and meaning, sometimes even with clear political and social implications. (Probably why is this time also a lyric sheet in.) The typical, largely meaningless and absurd wordplay that made the debut album so unique, are almost entirely on the new LP. Also largely lacks the much-cited repetitive element, the mantra-like repetition short melody parts which then provoked comparisons with Can and minimalist music. By contrast, the new songs often have elaborate verses and choruses, in the spirit of the classic song form. But I particularly regret the lack of catchy melodies, the anthemic, folk-inspired, often polyphonic presented choruses that made a lot of pieces of the first album to keep earwigs. Such catchy melodies can be found on fence seldom but it extended instrumental passages and a lot of chanting, the latter may be a concession to the taste of the younger audience. (Or are there occurred to them no matching melodies?) And a second washing can be found here any more than another extension but that was not to be expected; such strokes of genius are shaken not so easy from the sleeve. As I said, that's all a matter of opinion, and I've already talked to people that this second album as enthusiastic as before the debut. In order not to be misunderstood: The disk contains wonderful songs (flower or the toothbrush Waltz), is a total terrific and highly recommended it merely fades a little compared to its predecessor, which was, however, also can not be beat, and now considered classics can. Let us hope that the four exceptional talents of Oberammergau for their third album coming up with a few catchy melodies that sing their songs polyphonic again instead of speaking them and that they succeed in yet another masterpiece in this way. Because one thing is certain: the Kofi's are still the best thing that has happened to the German music in recent years.
