Have so far made 220 HS since 2 weeks approximately 1,000 photos, the Ixus. Conclusion:
Very good camera for "always there". Small, light, handy. Fits easily into your pocket. I would shoot any wedding so, but I cross he prefers to my DSLR. But for everyday highly recommended.
Photos:
+ Good, balanced image quality; even in less favorable lighting conditions
+ Most natural flash shooting (with other compact cameras are often overexposed faces)
+ Wide 24mm (perfect for landscapes and pictures in confined spaces)
+ Advanced feature set for a compact camera
+ Feels "valent" on
+ Mode "Handheld Night Scene" (sets of picture shooting together) -> practical and good quality, as long as nothing moves
+ Good results in the "Program Mode"
+ Nice digital effects (fisheye, miniature, only solid colors (black and white balance))
- "Automatic mode" only conditionally recommendable (likes to go in high ISO settings)
- High battery consumption (80-120 pictures depending on flash use)
o menus okay, but not great (I find at the Casio Exilim better managed)
Video:
+ Full HD
+ Good quality, even in non-HD (640x480)
+ Optical Zoom (a little slow, but pixel-free compared to digital zoom)
- Autofocus does sometimes too long to refocus
- High storage requirements at Full HD (about 250MB / min .; could be better compressed)
Spare battery is a "must". I use the 220 HS with a fast 16GB card -> plated for photos, but for full HD video is also a "must".
