Benefits:
- High luminosity. With 800s or 1600s sensitivity and maximum aperture can in dim light (street lights) still good free photograph hand. Photos indoors without a flash are very atmospheric and succeed easily in film speed 200 (eg, 1 / 50s at f = 1.4). Due to the high speed and accuracy (see AF) to take great snapshots very simple and very good.
-Very Fast autofocus (USM) with permanent manual intervention possibility. Often very precise, sometimes just wide in low light. (Eg to about 5 m distance 20cm wrong at full aperture). Successful AF with surprisingly little light.
- Very sharp in the center. For a fixed focal length rather blurred at the edges. The edges are only starting aperture 5.6 really good. Just about in the middle, they are not. (See, eg, reviews)
- Pincushion distortion. Straight lines writhe clearly on the screen.
-Vignetierung At maximum aperture by approximately 1 f-stop.
So, these were all quirks. I find the lens super handy and use it like. It has beautiful Gestaltungsmöglivhkeiten with the focal plane and can make great photos. The lens is quite heavy (550g), but that should be ok. Together with the 400D leigt it comfortable to hold and also looks good.
The lens hood should be used for photos with open aperture necessarily because the lens is then sensitive to stray light.
