I have 8 for rehearsal recordings my bands I z currently coaching.., Is purchasing the DR. For this purpose, the instrument is ideal: it is high level stability, has the built-in microphones a very good fidelity (even with acoustic instruments), provides a great space image and is especially quick and easy to use - and it is small! In addition, the band also appreciate that they hear exactly what you play as recordings ;-) ... Even in live clubs (of course I had the necessary permits for it) brought first a Sennheiser HD 270 headphones and EMU audio interface on my computer and a very good high-end hi-fi system, a surprisingly authentic reproduction (you could feel the atmosphere in the club!).
Of course, 3 hours of recording time quite limited (then say goodbye to the battery / batteries) and the built-in "pre" is just enough (which anyway does not fulfill the purpose for me, what a monitor system is actually intended) for mini headphones, also was only an English instruction manual included. For me, these "criticisms" not relevant for assessment, at the price you go of course, a compromise. The robustness of the DR 8 after 2 months I can not evaluate, but it's in spite of a delicacy quite quality impression.
Therefore, full marks and a salute to TEAC: most of your German customers appreciate owners' manuals in German language but this device is absolutely perfect - as it is!
