I mostly use a professional camera, but there are situations in which I want to use a small camera that fits in your pocket and is better than a smartphone.

FIRST IMPRESSION, FIRST INSERTS
The Nikon Coolpix S6900 is nicely small and light, the menu navigation is very simple and intuitive so that cope well in my opinion, even beginners, without having to read long in the manual. Very good I like the tilt and swivel the monitor and the built-in stand.
Rather negative I find that the menu disappears automatically if you have done for too long blank. The time is relatively short, so I can imagine that older or inexperienced people will have trouble fast enough to select a setting before automatically exits the menu. The length of time can not be changed, unfortunately.
As a neutral, I also think the small internal memory, which is both nice, on the other hand is only enough for quite a few photos. So this is to be understood only as an emergency storage, if you have an SD card here, or it is full, and you suddenly have the motive of his life in front of the lens.

IMAGE QUALITY
I have uploaded some photos that convey an impression of the image quality. The image quality to be surprisingly good, especially the macro mode is simply great and provides very good macro shots that are very detailed.
The Selfies turn out well, especially the remote release ('Gesture Control') I think it's great. So Selfies look like have another took a picture of one, because of the semi-cutaway arm in the picture or unfavorable angle, because you somehow have to keep the camera and trigger, missing here.
The Smart-portrait, in which is triggered when the camera detects a smiling face, I feel more than a fun feature. It works in principle, but I then look anything but natural from smiling, but the camera trigger me until I put a diabolical laugh, which I rather look like the Joker. But maybe there's something wrong with my face.

COMPARED WITH A SMARTPHONE
The Nikon Coolpix S6900
- Is less than a typical smartphone, is thus something more manageable and takes away less space.
- Has a better zoom.
- Has a better resolution than a typical smartphone camera.
- Has a tilt and swivel monitor, which allows, for example, better visibility at Selfies so that you not only approach the apex, or half the ear, but the face in the image.
- Has WiFi, so you can easily connect the camera with a smartphone / tablet and share the images captured quickly. One can thus also what the camera sees, stream it to another device or take pictures with your smartphone.

Compared to other compact cameras in this price range
The Nikon Coolpix S6900
- Produced jpegs in much higher quality and with much less compression noise than other compact cameras.
- Has a great macro mode.
- Has a touch screen, on which you can select which area you want to focus (works only with still images, not at while filming a video).
- Has a rather short battery power (empty after about 2-3 hours). The battery must be charged in the camera (takes about 80 minutes), unless you to buy a extra charger. There is also the opportunity to buy a spare battery.
- Has a tilt and swivel monitor.
- Has an integrated pedestal.
- Has the 'Gesture Control' function.
- Can take full HD video. The quality is ok, but not spectacular. There is also a slow motion, but not in full HD resolution.

COMPARED TO HIGH-END COMPACT CAMERAS
The Nikon Coolpix S6900
- Has no mode for manual exposure.
- Fails quite fast in low light conditions when you want to use no flash, which is to be expected with a compact camera of this price range, however. Overall, however, the performance is surprisingly good, if you be careful that the ISO speed is not too high (can be defined for example in settings with a maximum value).
- Has no way to represent the background of an image out of focus (except in macro photography).
