I bought this operating system because I wanted to upgrade from Windows XP. The first surprise was that I was able to install it not on my desktop PC (10 years old) still on my laptop (about 8 years old). For both the installation stopped. I had previously run on both the transition wizard and just get the message that the processor does not support a certain type of start. So I had to buy a new PC to me. The installation worked right away. I had to involve only minor problems the old peripherals into the new system. The longest I needed for my Canon scanner that flawlessly ran under XP. Goofy, I find that the operating system updates are downloading to and processed after the start. I've seen many a nasty surprise when I only wanted to do it again quickly on a PC and then what had to wait until the update was processed and the system was restarted. It's worth a closer look at the shutdown. If the item "Update" visible, you should make the drive down before to work immediately after power-up can. Also this Microsoft product is "Banana Technology" (matures at the customer). Thus satisfied as with XP, I'm not, especially since almost all sound editing programs that run under XP, will not run under Windows 8.1. But under Windows 7 it does not run. But here we come to insight, to find all our best! (Spend money welcome!) Consolation is that I for this product, I would have bought elsewhere, also can pay a lot more than I paid. And now I'm on the latest possible date.
