Customer Review

Is written as in the headline, I had a Marantz AV receiver. In my case it was a SR5009. As can be read in the review, I was already convinced of this unit.
So why the change?
There were a few things that have bothered me but at Marantz: the choice of materials, the lame and unhelpful service and the tiny display.
Material choice: the Denon is actually valent and it shows. Of course not affect the main task of the receiver is for me but simply important.
Service: I can not judge so far - luckily. If I have gained experience, I will complete this review accordingly.
Display: finally a sensible display directly on the device with all the information that I expect and need. This saves the eternal benefit of the TV set to display the device information. Now that I can use it again, I realize how much I missed it. These then get the keys behind the metal door in the front panel. Remote controls are nice, but if you rumfummelt the HiFi rack and want to quickly switch to another time source player, then the operation using device keys is already enjoyable.

All these points do not affect the sound quality, but for me the handling is also an evaluation criterion - and perhaps for others.

Now on to the device, the delivered equipment and functions:
Positive were the same on the supplied adhesive labels for speaker cables. They can already be very helpful when you have not just masking tape on hand and wants to save the labels. Nice little gimmick in times of increasingly connectable boxes.

Connectivity, the device offers more than enough, even for those people who have really many source devices. I run only my Wii U, a BD player, a PC and an old tape deck, so many inputs remain empty. That helps but definitely of clarity.

Furnishings: The unit is easily and relatively quickly thanks to the setup wizard. All necessary steps, including some tips are determined by the device itself and one can choose what you want to use.

Network connection: Before Boxeneinmessung the integration took place in the home network. For me it was quick and easy via WLAN.

Calibration: The included setup has a neat long cable and a Pappstativ is also included.
What you should not rely, is the Verpolungswarnung the boxes. I've already read here, fortunately, but it could now also experience itself: a definitely not reverse polarity box was displayed as reverse polarity. Because I was sure that the box was not reversed polarity, I have ignored the message - and lo and behold, the next passage no polarity has been displayed. One might complain about it, but I see it simply as an indication to control the polarity might again. Since you do not so often performs the calibration, harms the extra views not really.
In contrast to the Marantz Denon specifically identifies the subwoofer. I As indicated this first set to 50% of its capacity. During the calibration process, I had to turn down the level but to avoid too much bass pressure. This should ensure that it does not come to a Basslastigkeit.

Bluetooth: I like streame times Music (Chillout, Lounge) from my phone to the receiver. The coupling is fixed by hand and once set up, to find my S5 and 4100 repeatedly.

ARC and CEC: In order for the Denon reproduces the sound of the TV, I had unfortunately once looking on the internet, what I have to adjust. Where have I set then was, thanks to the clear menus fairly easy to find. Now I can enjoy the sound of my Samsung UE40H6600 via the Denon and my boxing.
Thanks CEC is connected and mitgesteuerte devices switch on and off also. Very comfortable ...

Sound: Well, I'm not an audiophile and can not really evaluate the. With my big Quadral standing speakers (front), the JAMO (center) and the small satellites of the devil (Surround) sounds good. The Quadral floorstanders already ensure for proper bass response, also is still an active subwoofer from hell in the system involved. Which ensures any needed extra pressure with movies.
I think that everything sounds good and balanced.

What I miss and would find helpful:
At least in the initial setup, but sometimes in between you have time on the back of the unit. In my case, the receiver is in a rack and there is hardly light at the back. Since a backside illumination would be helpful, but at least one USB port to which you can run a flexible light. LED lights cost producers probably just pennies a minute, many users save but the flashlight between his teeth :-)
And a light topic: my already ancient remote control (older than 15 years) of Yamaha had fluorescent buttons, why not the remote control of a mordernen (and high-priced) device? Even better would be a - thanks to light sensor - in the dark permanently lit button to easily locate the remote control. Taking the FB in the hand, then all keys could shine weakly. Just as a idea ...

Conclusion: A really well-made instrument with an enormous range of connection and adjustment in discreet and unaudringlicher optics. For 880, there are 5 stars from me.
