My experience with 5-HTP has been very positive, but they were not the first time. Perhaps I can encourage one or the other to stay tuned to actually benefit from this drug. I am male, 41 years old and have been suffering from an early age depression. A few years ago more (transit) sleep disorders were added. I started in parallel with my second psychotherapy a sleep medicine treatment and get there over the years a total of seven different antidepressants. Either they have not only worked, or the effect has waned after a few weeks, or the side effects were so severe that I gave up. Six months ago, I found 5-HTP. I do not believe in the redemption of any miracle cure, if possible, even paired with conspiracy against the nasty medicine. I'm actually not a fan of self-medication. And I hold the psychotherapy remains indispensable. But the curiosity has triumphed. In consultation with my sleep physician I first took 50mg 5-HTP in the evening. A slight improvement in sentiment was noticeable after a few days, but sleep was a disaster and the days therefore no pleasure. I have followed for many weeks with the dose and taking time each experimented new variant takes two weeks. Finally, I landed at 200mg in the morning that was pretty good. My sleep physician then supplemented 900mg St. John's wort. (Perhaps it would simply 300mg 5-HTP do instead. It put so both drugs at the serotonin.) That's for me now for three months a really big help. The permanent veil of hopelessness, listlessness, fatigue and social phobia has clearly revealed. I again tired and force active part in the life to take. Even sleep is better. My problems have not vanished into thin air, but I have more courage, energy and confidence, they tackle in psychotherapy. Side effects I have when taking the morning no, most times a little nausea. So taking time and dose are crucial! It just takes some patience and tenacity to find out what kind of revenue fits individually. And it can, of course, act only if a lack of serotonin at all is the problem. Anyway, I'm very grateful to have discovered 5-HTP, and prefer all other antidepressants, which I tried, by far before.
