One of my best friends is in my opinion the biggest Tangerine Dream fan, there is. Personally, I could not share with him this long. Although he has often told me and a lot about it, but mostly it sounded like strange worlds for me and unfortunately not yet in a musical sense. This CD I got from him anyway, maybe he was to convert on a kind of mission am. When I had it almost ticked off that we will there ever come to a common denominator, I took with this Tangerine Dream CD to another friend of mine. Evenings there have gone hand in hand with mostly too strong coffee to sweet energy drinks, too much second-hand smoke to abstract electronic music and trashy movies. Some evenings are ended in a sort of seance, when we put on two cheap Yamaha keyboards and surrender in improvised sound research. Often enough, were the legendary sessions. In contrast to these seances the music of this CD was of course symphonic. Phaedra has enabled us suddenly and unprepared in a rather psychedelic atmosphere and was a perfect soundtrack for such an evening. I came all the time listening to the sound tremendously familiar and familiar, and I could not tell me where. Only when I one of my old notebooks have some time browsed later, I noticed that I had heard the title track a decade earlier in the radio broadcast space and time. Hard to imagine that once may be enough unconscious listening, not forgetting the melodies again. After that I could no longer escape plates from the seventies me the fascination of the old Tangerine Dream. Phaedra was the ticket to a musical world that psychedelic music from the seventies has given a new look, evokes associations with gloomy science fiction movies from the eighties and partially Ambient and Trance music takes from the nineties anticipated. Not least because of the then brand new instruments introduced Moog and Mellotron that were here yet rediscovered by Tangerine Dream with playful and improvising approach way and tried. The overall sound is warm as it really can hammer out only analog synthesizers, the compositions are atmospheric, partly dynamic and voltage-intensive, sometimes deeply meditative futuristic. Hard to believe that this is not music for a film, like so many other works of Tangerine Dream. About every four compositions distributed, I have to see a movie feel so cinematic is the effect. Just unbelievable that secured this sprawling, singing and free experimental sounding piece of music history of the band even chart positions and several gold records. Nowadays unthinkable and probably mainly due to the sensational new sound in that time. For me so far uneingeholt on the first rank of all Tangerine Dream releases.
