Customer Review

Until recently I had the choice to purchase a high quality BR player: Cambridge Azur 751 or OPPO 95 (both angetestet) or rather wait for the BDT500 ...?

Decision: BDT500.

After 2 weeks of operation, here is my review, focus BR playback / image quality:

IMHO the immense charge of Oppo / Cambridge is the money then definitely not worth it if you have a pure DVD / BR player searches and requires as absolute top priority signal quality. It may be that Oppo 95 + Azur 751 in the audio part have a technical advantage, and both are definitely better when it comes to playing preserves films in all conceivable formats, but both are NOT under warranty in terms of image quality better than the BDT500! And exactly this feature was the absolute priority for me. (Note .: The alternative smaller 320s came not because of his strange Housing design into consideration)

As in the comments to the previous review is - who knows the technical background, who knows that the pretense of a subjectively excellent appearing image at Oppo + Cambridge by using various video filters is achieved comparable to ffdshow in the PC sector ... at the expense one no longer pixel faithful reproduction!

Even the BDT500 is equipped with such diverse image processing options (sharpness general, detail sharpness, super resolution, noise filter in 2D + 3D ...), which ultimately just excellent throw the image on the LW, as it creates an Oppo / Cambridge. Due to a critical assessment of the home theater operation with 2.4m screen width using a beamer the 8000 class, I am even convinced he can still a tad better.

Not always is expensive = better. So you If a player with excellent image quality searches, and everything else is rather trivial (audio bitstream can probably now eh 'each), one is operated by the BDT500 allerbestens.

As a shortcoming can be the BDT500 only assume the following points:

a) Some devices tend to Spulenpfeiffen. In my this is in a cold state at room temperature. below 20 ° C, but after a few minutes of operation completely disappear.

b) The mechanical design + quality is generally very good, only the front flap inside could have a somewhat higher quality surface; However, the flap is 99% closed anyway and in this view, can the housing assume no blemish. Top quality would be only a stainless steel housing.

c) The touchpad / key remote is not backlit, which absolutely dam ... just in a dark home theater operation. The touchpad itself is a bit strange in the beginning. But now learned to appreciate its functionality; it can play, pause, be forward / backward and tripped chapter jump forward / backward by "finger wiper", alternatively the corresponding function keys are naturally present. Even something bad is the performance of the two staggered IR diodes; the FB must be quite specifically directed to the player.

d) The user guidance in the Player Setup is incomplete in some places. So to get directly to the lack of description non Lautpsprecher setup for the analog outputs. This is located slightly vesteckt, but has everything you need such as selective attenuation level and LS-size choice in 5.1 or alternatively 7.1 operation.

e) The display on the device has failed a bit short; would have allowed a few more points. But does its purpose, and how the style of an opp / Cambridge you will indeed welcomes ...;)

Other:

The acceleration and BR-load times are absolutely short, even in 3D. The Cambridge did not play any of my 3D movies; partly needed. even more than 2 minutes to the film's release or would sometimes not (disk surface in 1A state). Same Disk alluded from Pana immediately.

The 2D to 3D conversion works and the 3D effect is in principle also available, but depending on the scene more / less to not at all. Positives: artifacts or other irritations etc. have not yet noticed upon conversion operation. The 3D image can be adjusted course in its depth.

The drive noise is negligible. To start a film 2D BluRay one hears only a "noise" due to higher rotational speed, but soon reduced it and thus at a distance of about 1.5 m is acoustically imperceptible. The charge itself is similar to a BR drive from the PC sector. Here Oppo / Cambridge are not qualitatively better.

The Network Setup is made simple and can be done in a short time for inexperienced using the Quick Setup. The BDT500 has a RJ45 LAN jack, but has alternatively WLAN. However, since the beginning of the LAN jack I use fixed IP setting and can not complain. Network services such as Youtube, news services, and so on run smoothly, although unfortunately only in SD quality. About an online account you could "rent" movies in SD and HD quality.

The BDT500 provides 2 HDMI outputs: MAIN + SUB.
For SUB video can be disabled; usually this will be needed for 3D incompatible AVR's, a 3D operating through a direct connection Player - enable TV / projector. It must be noted that the BDT500 refuses to build a 3D mode, if both HDMI outputs video mode is set, the AVR but due to incompatibility 3D connection to the TV / projector prevented. Since it is the BDT500 therefore not possible to establish a HDCP-track on both HDMI outputs, it requires that the non 3D-enabled device is turned off (in my case the AVR). However, since I want to use for audio playback via HDMI to the AVR, the BDT500 offers in its setup to output HDMI SUB, the "Video OFF"; so then does the 3D movie playback smoothly because video is connected only via HDMI MAIN directly connected to the projector.

In my case (AVR may not 3D) view connections so like this:

BDT500 HDMI MAIN -> Projector HDMI input 1 ---> for 2D, but mostly 3D / display the AVR's OSD is not possible.

BDT500 HDMI SUB -> AVR -> Projector HDMI input to 2 ---> purely for 2D, with advantage, the AVR OSD to the screen view (eg volume level, AVR-setup etc.)

Digital audio connection to the AVR: Of course you can choose betw Bitstream / PCM, and individually for Dolby, DTS, and MPEG Audio.. Alternatively, the BDT500, incidentally, also a coaxial audio output (however, it should be preferred HDMI). Various sound options are also on board; I also like the Dialogue Enhancer for the center-LS, because from film to film, I experience it again and again, that language comes to silent from the center channel, although the system has been calibrated.

The front panel display is dimmed, and with local sensor key operation (are top of the unit) will hear a beep adjustable.

Note .:
The often pictured on the WWW "short" Panasonic FB (central touchpad) is not the model that comes with the 500 for DE. Our has a complete key layout + touchpad. Under one stone there are even quick access buttons for sharp detail, Superres., Chrominanzprozess and screen mode.

Last but not least it should be mentioned that are available up to 4 user memory in which individual system settings (focus, wallpaper, etc.) can be specified. Here I have "User 1" defined with my favorite picture settings for 2D mode and use "User 2" for the 3D mode, since wg. Ghosting & Co would be better to dispense with the various image sharpness regulator.

Conclusion:
Right now, I would buy myself the BDT500 anytime. Commendable, I find that the firmware (V1.23) yet makes a stable impression (emphasis BR-use).
